Monoprint on Japanese Gampi with 23ct Gold Leaf
Image size 32cm x 48cm
Framed size 54cm x 68cm
This image was made by placing a thin piece of 16g Gampi over an inked up surface. The line is created by drawing into the reverse of the paper with a pen or pencil and the tonal areas by applying pressure. You have to be crafeul about where you rest your hand otherwise that becomes part of the image too! There is white tissue incorporated into the image for the bark of the Silver Birch tree.
This image is framed in a stunning Italian muted gold and chocolate frame, which would happily be at home in either a traditional or contemporary room.
Buildings and architecture have been a fascintaion of mine from an early age and as a youngster learning how to draw, were often my subject. My first sales as a 19yr old were pen and ink sketches of the old town twisted streets in Filey! In particular I love it when a building has a story, where it's past is still evident if you look closely. This iconic street and building in Harrogate still bares the signs of it's past as The Herald building, home to the Ackrill newspaper group offices.
