In April/May of 2023 I spent a few weeks in my van with Dotty on Skye.  I filled a sketchbook with plein air drawings.  This was one of my favourite locations from that trip, and the place I chose to spend my last night before leaving.  The weather would come across from the sea, where you could see the island of Cana, and sweep across to the Red Cullins and the dramatic profile of the Black Cuillins.  I watched Whimbrels here, grazing above the shoreline, listened to the Tapestry album, just audible above Dotty's snoring....happy times!

The scale of this painting gave me the freedom to play around with it a bit more.  The rocks in the foreground are reduced to marks and pattern.
