Over the years it has become my favourite way of working, into the light, or contre jour, against the day.  It brings out contrasts and seems to add extra drama and atmosphere.  This painting epitomises the technique with a bright light shining through and dark shadows.

This is based on a section of the Nidd near my studio in Ramsgill
